Get Healthy for Summer

Winter blues lead to less healthy minds and bodies, but more daylight and less viruses doesn’t mean you’re home free for a healthy summer.

So, if you’re looking to get a little healthier during these warmer months, we have what you need to get started! Having a healthy body isn’t the only aspect of health – you need a healthy mind and spirit, too! We’ve got you covered.

Scroll with us a little while for some Summer time health tips (that you can keep up through all the seasons).

Healthy Body

Consider these tips for a healthier body this summer:

If you’re wanting to feel better in your own skin this summer, start with your skin! Remember to stock up on SPF, even on those overcast afternoons. This is an easy step to prevent short-term sunburn and long-term melanoma.

Drink your water! Aim for at least a half gallon of water each day – more if you’re exercising in the heat or working in the yard. If water is too boring, add a hydration electrolyte packet, lemon or lime.

Use those long summer days to your advantage, start walking or running in the evenings or add another activity in before dark. You’ll feel better and help that cardiovascular health while you’re having fun!

Healthy Mind

Just like your spiritual health, your mental health affects every part of your life. Stay on top of it with these three tips:

1 – Get outside

Spend some extra time outside. Whether it’s a walk,. run, or reading on the porch, taking a deep breath in fresh air will help recharge your mind.

2 – Get thankful

Misery loves company and it’s easy to let negative thoughts spiral. Take those negative thoughts captive to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Make a list of things you can constantly be thankful for and get it out every time you need a reminder.

3 – Get connected

God created us to be in community with Him and with others! Find a local, Bible believing church if you don’t already have one and dive in to community! Whether it’s an organized group or just a bunch of friends, take extra time this summer to connect with a community of believers in Jesus.

Healthy Spirit

No matter the season, daily time spent in God’s Word is vital to your spiritual health. Set aside time each day to dig into Scripture (and it doesn’t have to be at 5am before the day’s chaos begins, either).

Summer Scripture tip: Find someone who can get together with you for a weekly walk or picnic and do a Bible study together. If you’re not sure where to start, you can always pick a new chapter in the Bible each week to read together and discuss.

Discussion questions: What was the first thing you noticed in this passage? What does this passage say about God’s character? What does it say about human nature? What is something I need clarity on in this passage? How can I apply this passage in my life?

What other tips do you have for a healthy summer?
