Telling The Truth About Emotions

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

How can you tell the difference between the truth and your emotions? Instead of asking yourself how an emotional situation will affect you, ask how it will affect the kingdom of God. Carol, Tricia and Kelly talk about emotions, emotional triggers and how to respond in love and truth when you’re feeling shaky.

Tips to have a healthy response to emotional triggers:

Are you aware of your mental/emotional state? Check in to see where you are initially. Are you hungry, angry, lonely or tired? Take a step back if you are.

Give yourself time. Take 10 minutes before reacting or responding to someone.

Confront your thoughts – don’t just assume they’re true.

Redirect your mind by focusing on truth from God’s Word.

Consider the other person. Get curious instead of defensive. Seek to understand their opinion.

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…” 2 Corinthians 10:5
