Planned Neglect

I ran across this phrase recently in a blog post by Randy Alcorn.

Basically, Randy says we should plan to neglect the things that God is not calling us to.

Good advice.

Hard living for a people pleaser like me.

I find myself overextended on a regular basis. Without the energy to do the things I really feel called to because I have spent myself on being all things to all people.

I really want to spend my life on the things God wants. But, I often find myself a slave to the things that people want. I guess that’s why I am so crazy about songs like “Keep Making Me” and “Let Them See You.”  It gives me hope to know that I am a work in progress and that God isn’t finished with me yet.

Let’s try to plan to neglect the trivial and really sink our energy into the eternal. Ya with me?

And that starts with the ONE thing…spending time with God.

As Randy Alcorn says, “If you don’t give yourself room to breathe, you won’t give God room to move.”

When Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet soaking Him in, and Martha was mad because Mary wasn’t doing what she wanted, Jesus said to Martha, “only a few things are necessary, really only one; Mary has chosen the better portion, which shall not be taken from her” (Luke 10:42).
