Mitchell county recovery ministries is hosting "Rise Up!" A two part event occurring on Saturday, August 31st to recognize National Overdose Awareness Day. The first part is a  Benefit Ride including motorcycles, jeeps, and hot rods. $25 per bike, jeep, buggie, and hot rod. There will be food, 50/50 raffle and door prizes. All proceeds will go back to Mitchell county recovery ministries.

Part 2 of Rise up event will be on upper-street Spruce Pine Mitchell county recovery ministries will introduce Never2scarred and Celebrate recovery. There will be praise and worship with the band Mended worship, testimonies, and guest speaker Nathan Silver’s. There will be food vendors and we will also be releasing luminaries at the conclusion in memory of falling friends to addiction and also ones still stuck in addictions of any kind. The street will be closed and stage set up in the road.

Newbridge Baptist Church will host a Community Block Party on Saturday September 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at 199 Elkwood Avenue in Asheville. This Free Event for Families will feature Inflatables, Firetrucks, Police Cars, a Mini-Train Ride, Outdoor Games for all ages, Live Music, Food, Scavenger Hunt & Prizes. This is a free event sponsored by several churches in Yancey County. We will march through the streets of Burnsville to the Town Square. This event is a time to show our faith and lift up Jesus in our community. There will be prayers and live worship music on the Square. A FREE picnic lunch is provided. The event starts at the Yancey Rescue Squad on the corner of Love Fox Road and West Main Street and continues on the Town Square. This is not a Yancey County exclusive event; all are welcome.
