Praying for Our Youth: 10 Key Areas of Prayer for Youth

• Purpose
  • Because God has a plan and purpose for every young person. Ask God to, no matter each person’s circumstances, give them passion and a deep-seated purpose for living. 
    • Scripture: (Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 139:13-16; 2 Corinthians 5:20; Jeremiah 1:5; John 14:13; Romans 8:28-29)
• Friendships
  • You are (and become) who you hang out with. Ask God to give kids wisdom in choosing their friends. Ask him to bring people into their lives who will point them to Christ. Pray that God will use students to encourage and build up each other like never before.
    • Scripture: (1 Corinthians 15:33; Hebrews 10:25; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; 1 Samuel 16:7)
• Character
  • Kids today are bombarded with every temptation known to man, and the enemy is seeking to destroy their character. Pray that today’s youth may experience an ongoing transformation by having their minds renewed. And I pray that they’ll be examples to the world in their speech, lives, love, faith and purity. Ask for more great Christ-like role models for our students, particularly among their peers.

• Purity
  • Ask God to give them more of a hunger for righteousness than a sexual appetite. Ask him to help kids see through the enemy’s lies, to strengthen them, give them the drive to flee sexual immorality.
    • Scripture: (John 8:32; 1 Peter 1:5; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 John 4:4; James 1:12-14)
• Passion
  • May God grant today’s youth an anointing of power by the Holy Spirit to be the greatest witnesses for Jesus we’ve ever known. Pray their zeal for obedience will supersede any other human desire they have.
    • Scripture: (Acts 1:8; Luke 4:18-19; 1 Peter 3:15; Matthew 28:19-20; Galatians 5:24)
• Money
  • Because the love of money is a root of all evil, pray that God will give spiritual eyes to today’s teens and help them view money as a great resource for Kingdom purposes. May God grant them contentment in plenty or when poor because of their richness in Christ Jesus.
    • Scripture: (Philippians 4:19; Matthew 6:24; Ecclesiastes 5:10; Hebrews 13:5)
• Submission and Honor
  • Pray that this generation submits to Christ and to people in authority over them. May God give them grace to love, respect and honor their parents, teachers, spiritual leaders and governing officials.
    • Scripture: (Ephesians 6:2-3; Hebrews 13:17; Mark 12:17)
• Spiritual Growth
  • Pray that God nurtures the soil of young people’s hearts and grants them a greater sensitivity to their spirit so they may grow in the knowledge and grace of Jesus Christ. I also pray for more passionate workers for the harvest of youth ministry.
    • Scripture: (Luke 2:52; Galatians 2:20; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 3:16)
• Discernment
  • Ask God to give teenagers the knowledge of the truth of God and spiritual eyes to see so the enemy won’t be able to deceive them. I pray they can discern between the teachings of the Living God and those of false gods or prophets.
    • Scripture: (1 Timothy 3:9; 2 Corinthians 2:11; John 17:17; Ephesians 6:14)
• Hope
  • May God help today’s teenagers take every thought captive for Christ. In our prayer for youth, let’s ask God to fill every young person with the hope of Jesus’ resurrection. Ask him to protect their minds and hearts from hopelessness. May God also help them cling to Christ during discouragement and soak up his strength so they can then offer this same hope to others.
