Are you trusting comfort more than God?

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” — James 1:2–3, ESV

We all love being comfortable — the cozy blanket, the secure plan, the easy day. But sometimes, comfort can quietly become the thing we trust more than God. We chase what feels safe instead of stepping into what He’s calling us to.

The Bible is full of people who met God in uncomfortable places — Moses in the desert, David in a cave, Paul in prison. None of them were living the “comfortable life,” but every one of them was walking with God. That’s where the real peace is found.

Peace isn’t the absence of struggle; it’s the presence of Jesus. Comfort says, “I want things to feel good.” Peace says, “Even if they don’t, I know God is good.”

Maybe you’re in a hard place right now — waiting, uncertain, stretched thin. Don’t assume you’ve stepped out of God’s will. Sometimes, it’s right there in the struggle that God is shaping your heart for something greater.

Ask Yourself

1. What’s one area of my life where I’ve chosen my own comfort over my calling?
2. How have I seen God use discomfort to grow my faith?
3. What would it look like to trade temporary comfort for lasting peace this week?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me enough not to leave me comfortable. When I’m tempted to settle for what feels easy, remind me that You are my peace. Teach me to trust You in the hard places, knowing You’re using every moment to make me more like Jesus. Amen.

Put it into Action

Ask God to reveal one area where comfort has become your default. Maybe it’s a routine you won’t let go of, a step of faith you’ve delayed, or a conversation you’ve avoided.
This week, choose courage over comfort — and watch how His peace meets you there.
